Travel Awards/Grants
The Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons (CABPS) will award a minimum of three (3) travel awards/grants annually, one (1) in each category of:
1) Allied Health: [Dietitian/ Nurse/Kinesiologist/Psychologist/Social Worker];
2) Trainees: Resident/Fellow [Internal Medicine/ Surgery/Psychiatry]; and
3) Physician: [Medicine/Surgery/Psychiatry].
Applicants will apply this grant towards attendance to Canadian Obesity Weekend.
Description
This annual award recognizes applicant in the field of bariatrics, who are members of CABPS, offering them an opportunity to apply for a travel grant to help offset costs to facilitate attendance at Canadian Obesity Weekend.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a current member of CABPS. (Self-nomination is accepted.)
- The applicant is required to register and attend the current year’s CABPS Conference - Canadian Obesity Weekend.
- The applicant is required to submit a 500-word article, within their specific field as it relates to Bariatrics, for publication in the CABPS Newsletter, Bariatric Bytes
Application Process
Application form and 500-word article must be completed and submitted electronically to: Dr. Judy Shiau (Internal Medicine), Dr. Radu Pescarus (Surgery), Dr. Susan Wnuk (Psychiatry/Psychology), and Ms. Jennifer Brown & Dr. Simon Bacon (Allied Health) at info@cabps.ca by the submission deadline.

Value
- Five Hundred Canadian Dollars (CDN $500.00) for travel/accommodations.
- Complimentary Membership in CABPS for the following year.
- Free Conference Registration for the following year or subsequent year dependent on the category in which you fall.
- Cheque will be presented at the CABPS Annual Conference, scheduled for May 9-10, 2025.
Notice of Decision
February 14, 2025 to facilitate registration to Canadian Obesity Weekend. The early bird deadline is scheduled for April 4, 2025.
