CONCURRENT SESSION – PART 1 (A)

Advances and Challenges in Obesity Management

Bridging the Gaps: Enhancing Nutrition Status for People Living with Obesity

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the risk factors and clinical implications of malnutrition and muscle loss in individuals with obesity preparing for metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) or undergoing treatment with nutrient-stimulated hormone-based medications.
  • Identify evidence-informed nutritional strategies, such as adequate protein intake and targeted micronutrient support to enhance nutrition status prior to MBS or initiation of nutrient-stimulated hormone-based medications.
  • Integrate multidisciplinary approaches to reposition meal replacements as a therapeutic intervention aimed at enhancing nutrition status, preserving muscle mass, and improving body composition, rather than solely facilitating weight loss.
